Write your answers by hand.

Write each sentence with the main verb in the passive voice, present tense:

1. This instrument is played by blowing air through the mouthpiece. (play)

2. The buttons are pushed down by the person playing the trumpet. (push down)

3. A trumpet is used to create sounds that are very loud and high. (use)

4. Trumpets are constructed from brass. (construct)

Write each sentence with "could" + "have been" + the past participle:

Tom got into an accident.

28. He could have been killed if he hadn't been wearing a seat belt. (kill)

29. The other passengers in his car could have been seriously injured but they were okay. (injure)

30. The accident could have been avoided if the other driver hadn't been talking on her cell phone. (avoid)

Write each sentence with "should" + "have been" + the past participle:

It's 6:30 p.m., but Jim is still at work.

31. He should have been finished with his work hours ago. (finish)

32. He should have been told how long it would take to finish. (tell)

Write each sentence with the main verb in the passive voice, present perfect tense:

These are new cowboy boots.

34. They have never been worn before. (wear)

35. They have just been sold to a man from Arkansas. (sell)

Rewrite these sentences in the passive voice. Pay close attention to the verb tense in the original sentence:

                  Breakfast was made early in the morning.    

41. The dentist looked at my teeth.

      My teeth were looked at by the dentist. 

42. Millions of people listen to that radio program.

     That radio program is listened to by millions of people.          

43. Local politicians have not addressed that problem.

     That problem has not been addressed by local politicians.

44. Dr. Johnson is teaching that course.

     That course is being taught by Dr. Johnson.

45. You can find a lot of good deals at that store.

     A lot of good deals can be found at that store.

46. They finally fixed the road.

    The road was finally fixed. (Note: It's not necessary to say "by them.")

47. Her brother will meet her at the airport.

      She will be met at the airport by her brother.

48. They're taking a test.

      A test is being taken .

49. They should have finished this already.

     This should have been finished already.

50. We didn't gain much last year.

    Not much was gained last year.
