There are many different kinds of nets:

If you throw a basketball through the net, you score two points. basketball net
If a hockey puck gets into the net, you score a goal.

He's using a butterfly net to catch butterflies.

She's using a net to catch fish.

Sometimes the word "internet" is shortened to "net."

He's surfing the net.

(He's looking for information on the internet.)

In business, the word "net" refers to the money that you make after you deduct your business expenses and taxes:

She made a net profit of $89,000 from her business last year.

(Her gross profit was $146,000, but she had to pay taxes and she had a lot of expenses.)
