Lesson Twenty

Verb tense review for the verb "be"

 

 

It's useful to review the way the verb "be" changes in various tenses when you study the passive voice. Look at the charts below. A past participle following the verb "be" forms the passive voice.

 

Present Tense - Be

To make the negative, use "not"

Present Continuous Tense - Be

"Going to" Future Tense - Be

To make the negative, use "not" after "am," "are," or "is," or use a contraction.

use "have" + "not" = have not / haven't; has not / hasn't been

Past Perfect Tense - Be

To make the negative, use "had" + "not" = had not / hadn't been

Future Perfect Tense - Be

To make the negative, use "will" + "not" = will not / won't + have been
